ROB WHORROD | CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Rob has been working with explosion protected products in the Oil + Gas industry for over fifteen years. He consistently demonstrates a visionary ability to create groups of businesses containing high value intellectual property, to develop strategic business partnerships and to eventually divest the entities created at phenomenal enterprise values.
Previously, Rob has built and sold a number of similar companies, one being in 2009 creating a ROI >800% over a 9 year period and the most recent in 2015 generated a ROI in excess of 3600% over a 4 year period.
Rob graduated from Nottingham University with a BSc (Hons) in Theoretical Dynamics and Maths with Engineering. He followed up with a qualification in Chartered Accountancy soon after and completed a number of years in the financial world with PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) and Grant Thornton. The combination of numeracy and engineering disciplines has proved a winning formula in the past and Robs intention is to repeat and improve the performance within Investx.
ROGER WHORROD OBE | NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Roger has a BSc and MSc in electrical engineering from Bath University and an MBA from Warwick University. He worked for many years in a number of energy companies before starting Arena Lighting which became Electrical Equipment Holdings Ltd after the acquisition of Walsall Conduits in 1990. In 2000 the cable management businesses of Electrical Equipment Holdings were sold whilst he retained the hazardous area products division which, with the help of his son Robert, became Walsall Ltd, a very successful UK supplier of electrical installation equipment to petro-chemical industries worldwide. This business was sold in 2009. In 2010 he became Non-Executive Chairman of and technical advisor to The Oxalis Group Ltd, a business specialising in CCTV and thermal monitoring systems for hazardous areas. After 5 years of rapid, profitable growth, Oxalis was sold to a giant American electrical engineering company in January 2015. Roger is now a shareholder and technical advisor to Lumenox Ltd, a start-up company developing a range of smart LED lighting fittings and control systems for hazardous areas.
Outside of business, Roger has been involved in higher education as a Lay Member of the Council of Bath University and is a significant charitable donor. He is also a member of the Finance and the Senior Appointment Committees. He has donated personally funded bursaries for undergraduate engineering students from low income homes, post-doc research in sustainable chemical technologies, post-doc research in the benefit of exercise for wheelchair users and support for Women in Engineering initiative. In the Queen’s 2015 New Year’s Honours, he was awarded an OBE for services to philanthropy.
PETER EDGAR | CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
A highly motivated, ambitious and dynamic professional with demonstrable success in all areas of finance and due diligence, Peter graduated in Mathematics then excelled as a financial auditor, developing a keen eye for detail and an analytical mind right from the beginning of his career. He qualified in accountancy (ACCA) in 2004 with subsequent industry experience leading teams within start-ups, SMEs and PLCs. Having progressed through and managed all areas of accounting and finance he can work hands-on or high level in any arena. Peter started working alongside Rob in 2010 and has rapidly become very experienced in the integration of new acquisitions. He has also become expert in the preparation and structuring of manufacturing businesses’ in advance of sale.
LEON SLOYAN | INVESTMENT DIRECTOR
Leon Joined the HSBC graduate scheme in 2005 having achieved a 2:1 honours degree in Economics, where he completed the two-year programme in 16 months and was appointed as a Commercial Manager in 2007. He was primarily focussed on providing funding and operational solutions to help SME’s grow and manage risk.
In 2010, he was appointed International Commercial Manager and managed a portfolio of SME businesses that had international operations and complex funding structures. Portfolio income grew from £800k to £1.3M in 2 years via organic growth but primarily portfolio acquisitions. Following stellar performances over the next three years which saw him awarded as the top performing Commercial Manager at HSBC in the Midlands for 3 years in a row, he joined Santander in 2013. From a standing start, he grew the Santander portfolio to over 30 new clients generating an annualised income of £1.5M in 3 years, lending £33M to growing SME’s primarily based in the manufacturing sector, along the way. He was also finalist for the Coventry & Warwickshire ‘Professional of the Year’ on 2 separate occasions.
